I recently upgraded to 1.9.7, and this week I have to create a document with hierarchical numbering...
So, I choose compile, set the prefix field for each entry to have <$hn>
the compile screen shows the formatting with 1 title OR 1.2 title OR 1.2.3 title.
When I select compile: preview or word document, the prefix is completely ignored. the folder or text title is not included either...

If I use <$n> or <$sn> in the prefix, same result - completely ignored. and no folder or text title
However, if I put <$n> chapter heading into the text, it is processed to 1 chapter heading.

This used to work;

Your advice will be appreciated

I managed to resolve this today. the secret appears to be in the "compile as is" flag against each file/folder. Unchecked that and the hierarchical numbering appears like magic...
