Re: How to come up names to your characters?

I have a theory that certain rhythms and syllable combinations work better for different character types in a novel. This theory is not based on any in depth psychological studies, nor is it drawn from an understanding of cognitive behaviour. It’s just a hunch (albeit a hunch that I follow for all m...

Re: What's the plan Mr Bacon?

Well, I think it’s fair to say that October is looking somewhat unlikely. Sorry all for the delay. I got a new job (hooray?) a very short while ago and it made for pretty awkward NiaD timing. Am chatting to various stakeholders about alternate dates... January looks the most likely at the moment, bu...

Re: French adaptation of the NiaD

Ok. Sorry if I misunderstood. Certainly you’re able to run a collaborative writing event of your own. Of course my preference would be for people to drum up sufficient interest for the formal NiaD for us to run a simultaneous event in French (or Spanish, Australian, etc) rather than run “competing” ...

Re: French adaptation of the NiaD

Ok, wow. Firstly, it’s cool that you’re inspired to do this. A big part of my drive to do NiaD each year is to inspire people to go out and write their own stuff. I have to say, though, I’m a terrible control freak, and feel really protective of the NiaD concept and brand. As such, while I’m all for...

Re: NiaD 7: Lessons Learned

Haha. Those that follow me on Instagram will know I’ve been on holiday for a few weeks. I’ve also just started a new job. Those two between them have put a bit of (hopefully minor) disruption to our normal timetable. I’ll talk to the necessary stakeholders and see if we can’t get a date lined up. Sc...
I can see that you are working hard trying to undermine whatever genre bets my wife and I placed -- without even knowing what they are!
If I wanted to do that, I’d hint at revisiting a previous genre. But that would be both mean and against the rules. If I don’t insist on a...

How do people feel about having expositional elements in their chapter briefs? I’ve tended to write off story ideas that have required any material level of exposition, but maybe I’m too sensitive?

Is it sad that NIAD's been the most excitement I've had on my birthday (10/17) for the past few years?

There is nothing sad at all about enjoying NiaD! It’s great fun! :D
